Before I was performing my solo shows, I actually started by writing original songs. Somehow I was advised to take my time with it – because you had one shot at a first impression.
It’s one way of looking at it, and in a way, I’m glad that I get to choose now what I want my music to be about. As a result, this is the only song of mine that ever made it to the stage!
Today I get to revisit it… how cool to have this first video at my debut concert at Joe’s Pub.
Sometimes I wonder what makes you have to be creative. I wouldn’t want it any other way…
YOU’RE TOO GREAT
by Flo Ankah and Frank Simms, 2010
I didn’t know how to be
Without a man, holding me free
Longing for romance
TOO GREAT YOU’RE TOO GREAT
MY FRIEND, IT’S TRUE
WHAT IF YOU HAD JUST BEEN
A SIMPLE LOVER
IT’S ME, NOT YOU
MISS YOU, I DO
THE MEMORY OF US TOGETHER
Life is a game that’s forever
Together we hoped to be
After the storm, swe-et and warm
Something was missing
What has become of us anyway
Why don’t we see eye to eye?
Wishing we could have been so much more
And I found a way…
I put myself through the test
You couldn’t last in the nest
Got to be more, wanting to soar
I closed the door.
